County official sued over near-drowning at home College student says pool frolic was not properly supervised

A college student who nearly drowned at the home of Cook CountyRecorder Gene Moore is suing Moore for not providing bettersupervision at a summer party.

Samuel Betts was in a coma for five days after the incident,according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday in Cook County Circuit Court.

Betts said he was at Moore's Maywood home for the July party whenhe was either pushed into the deep end of the indoor pool or he fellinto it, the lawsuit claims.

Betts, a student at Tennessee State University, was unconscious ashe was pulled from the pool, then rushed to Loyola University MedicalCenter.
