Fed: Universities concerned about plan to extend graduate tests
University heads have reportedly raised concerns about a government plan to ensure
all graduates meet basic job skills to enter the workforce.
The Australian newspaper says vice-chancellors have been in robust discussions with
the government over the plan.
The report says Education Minister BRENDAN NELSON wants a $251 million Learning and
Teaching performance fund to boost participation in a graduate skills test.
It comes after employers warned graduates don't have the basic skills needed for employment.
The plan will reportedly link university funding to a range of results including student
progress, success and drop-out rates.
The vice-chancellors reportedly say the policy could see institutions rejecting students
-- including children from poor families.
