Qld: Former Caltex boss joins Suncorp Metway

BRISBANE, Aug 3 AAP - Former Caltex managing director Ian Blackburne is to join the
board of Queensland's Suncorp Metway.

Suncorp Metway chairman John Lamble said Dr Blackburne's depth of knowledge, particularly
in retailing, would be very valuable to the company.

Dr Blackburne, 54, joined Ampol in 1975 as a research chemist and rose to become managing
director from 1992 to 1995.

He was then responsible for the complex merger of Ampol with Caltex Australia and became
managing director of Caltex until his retirement this year.

His appointment takes the number of Suncorp Metway directors to eight, including seven
non-executive directors.
